Link Spam

Automated posting of links on comment forms, forums, or other publicly available places where users can post without restriction. Link spam is typically used for pump and dump search engine traffic — it may last a little while, but eventually the search engines will “slap” (penalize) the website where the link spam points. That is not an excellent way to build a brand or a long term campaign.
